We sold this beautiful 1968 911 Short Wheelbase on behalf of a client, a new customer from De Bilt at the time. We came into contact with him via our stand at the 2008 Interclassics and Topmobielbeurs at the MECC in Maastricht. After driving the Porsche for a short while, he realised he actually wanted a bit more horsepower, and asked us about the options.
Following a detailed discussion, his “requirements” were made clear to us. We provided him with a quotation to replace the carburettor engine with a 3.2-litre unit, including all the necessary modifications. A key condition was that the classic look should not be lost. As well as the engine, we fitted an oil cooler in the right-hand front wing and had to adapt and fit all the oil pipes, including the thermostat. The ECU was mounted in its original position under the left-hand seat, all the wiring was adapted, and the new instrument cluster was fitted with a vintage housing! The entire braking system from the 3.2 has been carried over and adapted. In addition, the Porsche has been fitted with a Bilstein sports damper set and a complete old-style stainless steel exhaust system!
This Porsche has now been running trouble-free for several years at track days and classic rallies. The customer was so pleased that we have since undertaken a second, even bigger project together – see the green 1974 RSR.
